Anti-Fatness: The Personal and Political

10:30-11:30 AM

Anti-fatness is embedded within our society – systemically and interpersonally. Anti-fatness and diet-culture work to keep us hyper-focused on and critical of our own bodies, too busy hating ourselves to live a full, embodied life. This talk will explore the colonial and racist roots of anti-fatness and diet-culture, and help participants understand their body-image and food struggles in a much broader context and to make more values-aligned choices in relationship to themselves and others. References, resources, and reflection questions will be provided for continued learning.

Admission for this talk is $10.

Admission for this talk is free, but we encourage you to donate to the Women’s Transition House if you find this information helpful.

Speak Your Truth:

A Voice, Breath, and Empowerment Workshop

This workshop will aid you in the journey of your own individual breath practice, giving you exercises to help stimulate pelvic floor breathing, stronger more powerful voices, opening of the throat chakra, and getting better at congratulating ourselves into a better mindset.

Lindsay Gibson has been a voice & breath coach for the last 10 years. Preparing actors to use their voice and access their emotions healthily and safely is just one of her 5 careers. She is also a tv/film, theatre actor, voice over artist/singer, makeup artist on movie sets, voice teacher and also owns an organic tea company ‘Kisses To Go Tea & Co” where she incorporates sound healing to all her blends and offers what she calls “heart connections” upon purchase of her soothing tasty tea.

Her series is a unique active series that allows us to better understand the mind/body connection. Allowing us to aid in the release of stored tension in our bodies. Some of the exercises are rigorous. Some of them are slow and methodical. Both involve movement and allowing us to better understand our batteries/bodies.

Movement, even small movement, (no we aren’t doing cardio) is crucial for our light bodies. As we are made of vibration, it is no wonder that when we are lacking in movement…. We feel like combusting. And that can look different for us all. Over thinking, over stimulation, sore bodies, negative thought patterns etc.

Admission is on a sliding scale from 10 30

4:00-6:00 PM

A lot of us have things we would love to SPEAK OUT on. Speaking Your truth isn’t always easy, but it can help to release stagnant energy. And this beautiful, inclusive, loving, nourishing series is going to give you permission to do just that.

So grab your journal. Grab your yoga mat, your stretchy movable clothing NO JEANS, your water bottles and let’s do our best to release some Stored tension shall we? It isn’t even yours after all…. It’s the worlds. So let’s give it back and recycle it to turn it into something more freeing and conducive for your lovely light body.

Do I need to register, even if it’s free?

Yes! With our hands-on workshops, supplies are limited. Please RSVP to events@oaklandsca.com so that we can prepare for you.
